Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) is looking for a Casual/On Call Driver experienced in driving a 4200 kg delivery truck with a life gate. 

This position is responsible for system-wide distribution and delivery of library materials and supplies for VIRL branches and for well-organized and efficient preparation and handling of incoming and outgoing materials.

These responsibilities are carried out in a team environment under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Representative Duties:

  • Packs, unpacks and sorts library materials for rotation and supplies;
  • Delivers materials and supplies to/from branches using VIRL vehicles;
  • Prepares, packages and ships outgoing mail, receives and distributes incoming mail;
  • Transfers materials, including ILLs to designated branches or Central Services;
  • Maintains logs, daily journals and statistics of all activities;
  • Responsible for routine automated circulation functions to support branches;
  • Responsible for postage equipment and maintains statistics on use;
  • Responsible for routine maintenance of the VIRL vehicles;
  • Responsible for maintaining a current valid driver’s license;
  • Other related duties as required.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12;
  • One-year full time relevant working experience;
  • Valid BC driver’s license with a clean driving record;
  • Demonstrated completion of defensive driving course;
  • Working knowledge of integrated library system, accounting, Microsoft Office and database searching;
  • Demonstrated abilities to be work cooperatively in a team environment and be well organized and efficient;
  • Good math, oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to lift and carry cartons of supplies and library materials.

You are required to have a valid BC Driver’s License and will also be required to satisfactorily complete a Criminal Record Check (Working with Children & Vulnerable Adults).
