The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) works to keep British Columbians safe from wildfires and floods and contributes to managing other emergencies through prevention, preparedness, response and recovery programs and partnerships at the international, national, provincial, and local levels. BCWS has a presence in communities across BC, with thirty-three Fire Zones, six regional Fire Centres, and two provincial centres in Kamloops and Victoria. BCWS has approximately 350 full-time staff and over 1700 seasonal employees.

The Provincial Wildfire Reporting Centre (PWRC) Clerk is responsible for providing call centre client service and performing administrative support for the PWRC. The PWRC operates year-round and is the Province's first line of communication for the public to report wildfires and activities or behaviour that may cause a wildfire and other natural hazard incidents. The PWRC is a critical link that helps inform BC Wildfire Service, creating situational awareness and supporting rapid operational decision-making about emergency response to wildfire and other natural hazard incidents.

Job Requirements:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Experience with operating a variety of computer applications and/or office procedures.
  • Experience effectively communicating in writing and verbally.

Preference may be given to individuals with:
  • One year of administrative experience.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Experience in a high-volume contact centre/call centre/reporting centre environment that requires calls and/or mobile reports to be queued and prioritized for response based on level of urgency.
  • Experience or education related to managing in a crisis or emergency management environment.
  • Experience with BC geography including place names and landmarks.
  • Valid class 5 driver's licence or equivalent.

About these Positions:

There are are currently ten (10) temporary positions until 11/06/2023 which may be extended or become permanent. Six (6) full-time and four (4) part-time.
These positions are located in Victoria.
