Position Overview

The Bus Driver will provide a safe and caring environment for children in your care during the transportation sequence. The Bus Driver will be responsible for safely transporting staff and the children we serve to and from school, field trips and other locations. As the Bus Driver, you will be expected to abide by all federal, provincial, local and company laws and regulations. The YMCA of Greater Saint John owns its own mini-bus; therefore, the Bus Driver is responsible for caring for company property, tracking mileage, and needed maintenance. The Bus Driver is a part-time hourly position and will report directly to a Child Care Centre Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care facilities standards and Child Protection Practices.
  • Ensures all bus protocols and policies are adhered to at all times.
  • Fill out bus logs and checklists daily or as needed.
  • Ensure safety inspection and other safety-related requirements are fulfilled
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures outlined in the Y's employee and child care policy manuals.
  • Adheres to record keeping as outlined by the Department of Social Development and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Ensures that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

  • Skills and qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Valid Class 4 license.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain
  • Clean drivers abstract
  • Proof of a minimum of three years of experience operating a bus.

  • Required
  • Candidates are required to provide full proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a valid medical certificate exempting them from the vaccine.
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. You will also be required to complete a Social Development Record Check.
