The Heavy Duty Mechanic is tasked with working on a variety of drill equipment, machinery and support vehicles in a fast-paced working environment. The HD Mechanic diagnoses equipment problems and determines repairs needed while demonstrating continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes. The HD Mechanic is required to show initiative, have a positive attitude and the have the ability to multitask effectively.

General duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Inspect, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, diesel engines, and hydraulic units.
  • Inspect and test drill units, diesel compressors, high pressure water pumps, diagnose faults and malfunctions, repair and replace mechanical units.
  • Structural welding.
  • Periodically go to the field, review and repair equipment, as needed.
  • Record keeping and documentation of activities as required.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
  • Housekeeping and other duties as assigned by the Shop Foreman.

General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Work safe and use all required safety equipment including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as per Regulator, Client and Company protocol.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment immediately to the Shop Foreman or Supervisor.
  • Maintain a valid driver's licence to drive the drill rig or support vehicles.
  • Take appropriate care of Geotech property and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean-cut and professional appearance which may include being clean shaven for sites requiring a respirator.
  • Behave in a professional and courteous manner specifically during all interactions with clients, regulators and members of the public.
  • Willingness to work weekends, out of town for extended periods and extensive hours in challenging weather and site conditions.
  • Be solely responsible for personal belongings. The Company will not be held responsible for employee's lost or stolen articles.
  • Ability to provide funds for Employees meals while out of town until Employees expenses are paid on their first payroll.
