Cheticamp Area Residential and Educational Society (C.A.R.E.S.) is a non-for-profit organization that provides vocational and residential support services to individuals living with intellectual disabilities and/or mental health impacts. The organization oversees the operations of four divisions in its portfolio which has an adult service centre and three residential homes.
C.A.R.E.S. is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our dynamic management team as the Manager of Bookkeeping. This is currently a term position for six months.
The Manager of Bookkeeping is under the general direction of the Executive Director and is responsible for all financial duties for C.A.R.E.S. in accordance with the philosophies, policies and procedures of the organization.

This is part-time, non-bargaining, term position with an hourly rate of $25-$30 an hour, depending on skill-set and previous work experience. The successful candidate will work 24 hours per week; working days are negotiable to offer flexibility to the successful candidate.

Key job duties include:
- Organize and maintain a computerized system for payroll and all accounts receivable/payable
- Upkeep daily sales journal
- Bank reconciliation
- Weekly bank deposits
- Maintain statements of revenue and monthly expenses
- Invoicing
- Petty cash and stipend supervision
- Handle cash payments
- Prepare for yearly review or audit
- Submit monthly billings to the Department of Community Services for all facilities
- Assist in the maintenance of personnel files for all staff. This includes managing vacation time, sick leave, overtime, bereavement leave, etc.
- Responsible for the preparation of monthly board package, which includes current balance sheet report, current cash flow report and current comparisons report
- Sit on Financial Committee
- To complete records of employment for staff members, as required
- Answer and direct incoming calls; deal with the public as necessary
- Prepare routine correspondence, compile data, statistics and other information
- To assist with current and future business initiatives by providing cost analysis, marketing and promotions guidance, program performance reports and recommendations
- Administration of employee benefits (i.e. group benefits, pension/RRSP)
- Assist/participate in all CARES fundraising activities or team events
- Attend meetings as necessary
- To abide and respect the Collective Agreement for LOCAL 4896
- Other duties as required/requested by the Executive Director
Qualifications and Skills:
- 1-2 years bookkeeping experience and/or equivalent education.
- Familiar with accounting systems, especially Sage 50.
- Proficiency in using computers and Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong organizational skills, time management and communication skills are required.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times with respect to all matters of the organization.
- As per the Department of Community Services mandate, the successful employee must be double vaccinated for COVID-19.
