Administrative New Full-time Position
Reporting to the Director, Research Operations, the Research Project Manager will play a crucial role in managing applied research projects across the college as a member of the Office of Research Services (ORS) Operations team. The incumbent will apply project management best practices in supporting researchers and research projects while adhering to various agency and institutional guidelines. The incumbent will also be responsible for guiding and supporting a team of research grant assistants in planning , executing, and troubleshooting activities in support of the research community.
The successful candidate will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on-site as required. The office of research services is located at 96 Grand Avenue South in Cambridge.
Responsibilities:
Manage and contribute to the successful execution of applied research projects across the college Review project plans to ensure comprehensive, realistic and well-defined projects Develop and implement risk mitigation plans to reduce the likelihood of project delays or other issues Monitor project progress and ensure the project stays on schedule and within budget Facilitate project planning and review sessions with appropriate team members and external stakeholders Maintain in-depth knowledge of funder requirements to ensure all project activities are compliant Communicate information regarding the current state, upcoming challenges, and future plans of research projects Provide updates to Principle Investigators on spending, in-kind, and cash requirements Create and maintain a community of practice to facilitate collaboration and sharing of best practices Manage and support a team of Research Grant Assistants in completing their activities and resolving challenges Troubleshoot issues and concerns arising during the research project Coordinate and facilitate discussions between internal and external stakeholders Update and streamline processes for administering research projects Identify and implement new initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce or mitigate potential issues
Qualifications:
Four-year Degree in Business, Engineering, Science or related field of study; Master's Degree in Business Administration or a Masters of Science in Project Management would be considered an asset Minimum of five years of relevant experience including leadership and project management functions; prior experience managing or leading in a unionized environment is preferred Professional Project Management Certification is preferred Research Administration Certificate is considered an asset Experience in the college research environment is considered an asset Knowledge of relevant regulations and policies Strong budgeting and financial skills Proven ability to effectively adopt and utilize online tools for collaboration - Project management tools, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, MS Office, MS Planner Track record of effective communication, including coordinating and leading meetings, with internal and external stakeholders across all levels of the organization Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively, within tightly prescribed timelines and within institutional and funding agency guidelines Excellent organizational, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and conflict management skills Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, independence, tact, and sound judgement in decision-making
