Advisian is looking for a mid-level field geologist/hydrogeologist to join our Water Service Line on a part-time, as-needed basis. The successful candidate would be able to direct field work, specifically sonic and rotary drilling, in remote areas of Alberta. It is preferred that the candidate is based in Fort McMurray; however, some consideration may be given to candidates based in Calgary and/or Edmonton.

Specific responsibilities of the role will include:
  • Safely conducting and leading field work and field data collection and documentation;
  • Providing technical expertise and/or support for geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, including core logging, soil sampling, water sampling, monitoring well installation, hydraulic conductivity testing, and pumping tests;
  • Using data analysis tools (such as Excel and Access); and
  • Working with engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, data managers, and other environmental experts to contribute to larger multidisciplinary projects.

  • Qualifications
    The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • 3 to 5 years of drilling experience (sonic and/or rotary) in the oil sands region;
  • Diploma or Degree from an accredited curriculum in a related field ( geology, hydrogeology);
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to project stakeholders;
  • The ability to travel and spend extended periods in remote areas;
  • Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills;
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to occupational health and safety practices in all aspects of the work;
  • Valid Class 5 AB driver's license is required;
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment with extended hours under varying weather conditions;
  • High level of attention to detail; and
  • Excellent time management and planning skills.
